Diaries: AROC MALAYSIA FAMILY DAY 2005 - 10th to 12th June 2005
Dates: 10th to 12th June 2005

Day 1 Ė 16 members with their respective families and children, totaling 68 persons attended the Family Day event. Our destination was the Tekam Plantation Resort near Jerantut, Pahang. The rendezsvous point was the Burger King outlet along Middle Ring Road (MRR2) near Sri Gombak, Kuala Lumpur. The group comprising of 14 cars departed the meeting point at around 4pm. Two other participants and their respective families only joined the group the following day.

As per normal, our convoy cruised the East-West highway at speed and arrived at our destination in less than 2 hours. We checked into our semi-detached chalets and relaxed until dinner. After dinner, the members sat at the coffee house, sipping coffee and exchanged stories. We adjourned back to our chalets at around 11pm and exchanged more stories at the balcony until late before retiring to sleep.

Day 2 - After breakfast, we were taken by bus for a plantation tour. We were shown how palm oil and other fruit trees were planted and maintained. We were treated to fresh fruits, like durians, rambutans, nangka, etc, during the tour.

After lunch, we were taken again by bus to the ancient caves of Gua Gelanggi, approximately 7km away from the resort. We were briefed by the keepers about the caves, itís history, and doís and doníts while at the cave area. The caves were especially awe-inspiring. The participants enjoyed the guided tour of one of the caves thru a lighted pedestrian walkway with a distance of about 400m.

All in all, the day was very educational, not just for the adults but also for the children. Dinner for the day was barbecued meat and fish. The resort surprised us further with complimentary durians. After dinner, we had a karaoke session with some of the members showing off their vocals. After the karaoke session, the members adjourned to their chalets and hung out at the balconies, again exchanging stories and experiences.

Day 3 Ė After breakfast, the members had a brief meeting and decided to skip the planned Herbal Garden Tour. As it was the last day of the school holidays, we were worried about potential heavy traffic along the Karak-Genting Highlands-KL route. Thus, the decision was made to depart the resort by 10am to avoid any afternoon or evening congestion. The decision was a wise one as we cruised rapidly thru the route back with minimal traffic. The entire convoy cleared the last toll before 12 noon.
