Diaries: NIGHT DRIVE TO GOHTONG JAYA - 19/7/2002
NIGHT DRIVE TO GOHTONG JAYA - 19/7/2002

About 15 cars showed up at the Esso station, along Jalan Batu Caves on Friday, 19th July, 2002 after 9pm. The group comprised of 146, 155, 155, 164 and 168 models. Some of the group members had long chats regarding their cars and other adventures while some checked on their cars. The group started rolling at about 11pm and headed towards Jalan Ulu Yam.

Once we reached the Jalan Ulu Yam turn-off near the Ulu Yam dam, the group of cars started to take off like bats out of hell. The road was dark and lonely at night with little oncoming traffic. The lead changed hands many times as whoever was leading decided to relegate their position. It wasn’t easy to drive in pitch darkness and not knowing when and where the next corner was. It was easier to follow rather than lead. Those cars that had extra bright headlights or xenon lights had a slight advantage.

The road up to Awana was equally challenging, and pitch dark as well. The twisties were made for our cars and the group took up the challenge with gusto and flair. We reached Gohtong Jaya at around midnight and stopped by a mamak shop next to Hotel Seri Malaysia. We sat and had teh tarik, light supper, and the usual car chat for about an hour before we made our trip back to KL via the KL-Karak highway. Again the group drove in single file and challenged the KL-Karak corners. It was a sight to behold as most of the cars sped thru the corners. After the toll plaza, the group went their separate ways.
